The money: dollars, margins and GBP

A futures account runs in dollars, so understand the exchange rate with the GBP and your broker's funding fees. Intraday micro margins are low, but the number that matters is not the margin: it is how much you lose if price runs to your stop.

A practical rule: if a normal losing trade keeps you awake or dents your household budget in United Kingdom, the size is too big. Cut contracts or return to sim until the numbers stop hurting.
